What Time is it in China?

                                                                                    Tea time

Time in China is measured by what we would call "military time." In other worlds, 1:00 PM is 13:00, 2:00 PM is 14:00, 3:00 is 15:00, and so forth.

The most interesting thing about China is that there are no time zones, which is amazing considering how large of a country it is. I have heard that the reason for this is because the Chinese government considers time zones a strange and distinctive Western conception.

Still, I am surprised that with all the modernization that China has been undergoing and the Western standards and culture it has been adopting, that has not instilled times zones throughout the country.

As a result, much of the country is in the dark for half the day. I have been told that people in these regions wake up later. Right now here in Shanghai, it starts getting dark at around 4:30 PM. Perhaps we could benefit from a little daylight savings time...
