En Estremoz, un día de mercado, entre el
mármol de Borba y el corcho arrancado de los alcornoques que arropan la
campiña del Alentejo, nos imantó el color sangriento de un puesto de
charcutería.
El tendero estaba almorzando y al ver que la boca se nos hacía agua, nos convidió con un trago y un trozo de fiambre. Luego levantó su copa y brindó a nuestra salud.
El vino era seco, el fiambre rico, la mirada generosa, el momento insuperable.
Market day in Estremoz. Between the marble of Borba and the cork peeled
form the cork trees which cover the countryside of the Alentejo, we are
magnetized by the bloody color of a butcher shop.
As the shopkeeper was eating and seeing us with watering mouths, he tempted us with a drink and a piece of cold meat. Afterwards he raised his cup to drink to our health.
The wine was dry, the meat was succulent and his look was generous- an unbeatable moment.
Markttag in Estremoz: zwischen Borba-Marmor und dem Kork von Korkeichen,
die die Landschaft der Alentejo-Region bedecken, faszinierten uns die
blutroten Farben eines Wurstwarenladens.
Der Verkäufer war gerade bei seimen Mittagsessen, und als er sah, wie uns das Wasser im Munde zusammenlief, spendierte er uns einen Schluck und ein Stück Wurst. Dann hob er sein Glas und trank auf unsere Gesundheit.
Der Wein war trocken, die Wurst köstlich, der Mann grosszügig, der Augenblick unübertrefflich.
